On July 3rd Raja, Ray, Chelsea the dog and myself walked the canal section of the London Island Walk. The full London Island Walk is so called because it envisages the City of London and surrounding eastern districts as being surrounded on all sides by water. On the north and eastern sides by the Regents Canal which links the Caledonian Road with the Angel Islington, Hoxton, Kingsland Road, Haggerston, Hackney, Victoria Park, Mile End, Roman Road and finally the Limehouse Basin. On the south side of the London Island there is the River Thames. The Western side is formed by the underground Fleet river which flows into the Thames underneath Blackfriars Bridge. I walked two-thirds of the London Island Walk by myself on the gloriously hot July 1st, stopping off for a pint of cold cider at the Prospect of Whitby and only interrupting the walk for a short bus ride up the course of the fleet on a 45 bus as far as Calthorpe Street. We walked north from Kings Cross up the Caledonian Road as far the canal. We then walked over the top of the Islington tunnel waymarked by circular discs in the pavement. We rejoined the canal on the far side of Upper Street.
